Centrepoint Sleepout 2017

For over ten years, Centrepoint supporters have been swapping their beds for sleeping bags to raise money and awareness for homeless young people and 2017 was going to be their biggest sleepout to date.

Greenwich Peninsula, a vast derelict site, ready for redevelopment was confirmed as the site – open on all sides with the River Thames on one side, it is open to all the elements and more!

With a week’s build, and with over 40 different suppliers to produce the event it was a largest event to date on size and attendees.

Working with the local authorities and events team for Greenwhich Penisula we had to make this event safe and withstand all the weather elements. An exposed site which is known for its artic, gale force winds sweeping through, was a challenge to say the least.

Covered Occasions installed 5 aircraft hangar like marquees that would house over 1,000 guests sleeping on tarpaulins and cardboard, a luxury for some however only enough to shelter from the wind and rain.

As guests were supplied with a strip of cardboard and a ‘Jiffy Bag’ to sleep in.

The RAF served a choice of hot suppers (which were amazing!!) to guests to keep warm. The bar was the hub of the event space, as it always is!

Scott Mills hosted the fundraising and the Charity raised their biggest target to date over £600,000!!

As the night wound down, and the air become cooler, around 4 degrees, Christopher Biggins read a bedtime story and guests were encouraged into their tents to bed down for the evening.

For those who decided to remain awake, the RAF served tea and coffee throughout the night.

The night was long and cold and everyone had a chance to reflect on what it would be like to do this night after night.

As the sun rose over the Canary Wharf skyline, the RAF were on hand to serve a very needed warm breakfast.

As the last guests left, Creventive began the 2 day clean up. Structures came down, tonnes of rubbish taken away and all in less that 48 hours after the last guest had left.

Creventive was humbled and honoured to be a part of such a fantastic event, and look forward to producing the event again in 2018!

This time, with bigger targets! We can’t wait!!
